Army Basic Training: The Basic Military Training Program, which costs $3,100, is the most expensive military service.
But its members receive a generous pay raise, which can be as much as $50,000.
Army members can expect to earn an annual salary of $61,400, and members of the Air Force will receive an annual pay raise of $47,000, according to the Army’s website.
Army National Guard: The National Guard, which provides health care and other services to the armed forces, receives a $1,400 pay raise over the course of a soldier’s service.
That includes an increase to $3.70 per hour for basic training and a one-time increase to nearly $4,000 for combat duty.
The National Guardsman will receive a total pay increase of $9,500 over the life of his contract, and will receive $5,000 more in retirement benefits.
Navy: The Navy will also see a pay increase in 2018, as the service will receive the largest pay increase ever.
The average sailor will see an annual raise of nearly $11,000 to $45,100.
Army Reserve: The Army’s Reserve will receive another $2,000 in base pay over the five-year term of its contract, which will bring its total annual pay increase to more than $22,500.
