NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that the Browns needed to make a trade to acquire Gordon.
He was also cited as a possible target for the Patriots.
Gordon was one of the best receivers in the NFL last season, and the Browns drafted him in the second round.
However, he suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 16 and never played in a regular-season game again.
RapopORT noted that Cleveland could have gotten a return for Gordon or a draft pick by trading for his former team.
But the Browns could also have used a cornerback to help fill the void.
Rapaport noted that Gordon is a free agent this offseason, and could not be a starter on the Browns roster in 2018.
Rapiport also said the Browns had no intention of releasing Gordon.
Rapope added that he has seen Gordon as a “big, strong, athletic receiver.”
Gordon caught eight touchdowns last season.
He led the NFL in targets and receiving yards last season with 81.
